POSITION SUMMARY:
Provide Islamic religious guidance, practices and leadership to the Muslim community of Malton
Masjid, in Mississauga accordance with the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of the Prophet
Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon Him).
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The Imam must possess the following qualifications:
1. A degree in Islamic studies or related fields from a recognized Islamic institution.
2. At least 1-2 years’ experience as Imam or working in similar environment building
Muslim communities.
3. Must be a Hafiz of the Holy Quran, able to recite with fluency and able to teach all
age.
Comprehensive knowledge of Islamic Shariah. Ability to interact with and relate to youth
and individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Fluency in the English, Arabic and Urdu (Oral and Written).
Moderate level of computer proficiency including Microsoft Office.
Be a public speaker and possesses a good judgement.
IMAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead selected daily prayers and Taraweeh prayers during the month of the Ramadan.
Give the Khutbah and lead prayer for Jumu’ah (1st or 2nd) and Eid prayers.
Maintain regular Madresa hours 4PM – 8PM (Monday – Friday) except on holidays.
Provide matrimonial, family counselling including divorce, funeral services, conflict
prevention and resolution and other guidance as required.
Provide Hadith studies, Seerah, Fiqh lessons and other Islamic topics to increase
knowledge and provide the spiritual growth of community members.
Participate in the community activities that further positive interfaith and public relations
for Islam and Muslims.
Develop and implement Islamic educational programs and extracurricular activities for the
youth and adults.
Work with Executive Committee on fundraising programs, religious matters, community
issues and events as needed.
Work in collaboration with both senior Imams.
Imam will receive an annual performance review by the Executive Committee.
